Careers for the Future

July 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

With the volume of boomers preparing for retirement, the impact of their numbers and projected needs should make leaders of health care facilities to be hasty in their preparations to handle their upcoming needs.  There will not be enough caregivers to handle the amount of boomers in their later years; there won’t be  enough long-term care beds, either.  Even though the boomers are healthier and are changing the face of what aging looks like, they will eventually get older and will need help; a good majority of them won’t have family available to care for them, either because their families have to work but a lot of the boomers did not either have children or had one or two.  This is the time for current organizatons to look at expansion of services and entreprenuers need to get their creative juices flowing for businesses that will serve their needs.

Some of the types of career paths or businesses that will be needed in the future include:

Gerontologists; case managers; gerontology-trained physicians, mental health therapists, physical, speech, & occupational therapists, massage therapists; housing specialists; long term care facilities; home health agencies; private-duty agencies; medical equipment companies; spa and beauty salon services; specialty clothing; exercise and wellness programs; trainers; support groups; volunteer opportunities; senior magazines and resource directories.

I could list numerous others.  It it imperative to begin the preparations for a huge need that will become apparent in the next 10-20 years.  That may seem like a far way off but, with needing to plan for expansion, start-up and funding, it is never to early to plan. What are you waiting for?
